From 23 to 25 September 2026, fire and rescue exercises were held at the premises of CZW “Węglozbyt” S.A. in Ostrów Wielkopolski, with the participation of firefighters from the Rescue and Firefighting Unit of the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Ostrów Wielkopolski.
The main objective of the exercises was to improve the organisation and execution of fire and rescue operations across an extensive industrial site, as well as to provide firefighters with practical knowledge of the Company’s technical infrastructure, internal traffic routes and fire protection systems.
Exercises in Conditions Close to Real-Life Situations
During the exercises, firefighters practised procedures related to organising water supply and conducting firefighting operations in storage yards. The exercises also provided an opportunity to practically test solutions and procedures that could be applied in the event of an actual emergency.
This year’s exercises included an additional element – a demonstration of the Kalmar container-handling equipment used for container transshipment. Firefighters were presented with the entire process of picking up, transporting and storing a container in the storage yard. This allowed them to gain a better understanding of the nature of the Company’s operations and the specific working conditions in this area. Such knowledge may be of significant importance when carrying out rescue operations in an emergency situation.
Inspection of fire protection infrastructure
An important part of the exercises was also the practical testing of the water intake point from the fire water reservoir, as well as the underground fire hydrants located in the container storage area.
The firefighters checked how their equipment could be connected and assessed the possibility of using the available fire water supply points as water sources during firefighting and rescue operations. Exercises of this kind make it possible to verify the functioning of the infrastructure under conditions close to real-life situations and to improve preparedness for incidents requiring a rapid and coordinated response.
Regular exercises conducted at the Company’s premises are important both for the State Fire Service and for our Company. They enable firefighters to become more familiar with the layout of the site, access routes, the location of fire protection infrastructure and the specific nature of the technological processes carried out on the premises.
For CZW “Węglozbyt” S.A., they provide an opportunity to practically verify the site’s preparedness for emergency situations and to further improve cooperation with emergency services.
We would like to thank the officers of the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Ostrów Wielkopolski for their commitment, professionalism and for conducting another joint training exercise. Cooperation with emergency services and the regular improvement of procedures are important elements in enhancing safety at the CZW “Węglozbyt” S.A. Terminal.

In recognition of many years of constructive cooperation, Krzysztof Mieszczak, President of the Management Board, was presented with a Diploma of the Commander of the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Ostrów Wielkopolski.
